ASK to Feel Comfortable During Your Business Presentation! Have you entered a room and heard the critic inside say, “What am I doing here? I am not good enough to do a business presentation for this caliber of audience?” Have you practiced your presentation, know the information and learned the business presentation skills to keep any audience engaged, just to find that voice in your head reminding you of the what if’s? Has the full color, digitally enhanced movie you have created of the worst case scenario of how the business presentation will go started to loop, just as you are introduced?
Business Presentation Skills
What you expect is a self fulfilling prophecy. You spend time to select just the right thing to wear, practice what you are going to say, create your visual ideas and handouts or binders. Great! Now take the time to select how you are going to feel and what you are going to say to yourself before, during and after your business presentation.
Take two or three minutes and ask yourself, “What do I want to feel when I get there?” “How do I want to feel when I am introduced?” “How do I want to feel when I am asked a question from the audience?” “How do I want to feel and what am I going to say, if I don’t have the answer to audience members question, right at the tip of my tongue?” “How do I want to feel after the presentation is complete?” “What do I want to hear from the audience after the presentation?” “What do I to be telling my co-works, friends and family after I have done the presentation?”
Now, here is the ASKing secret, take the answer from the last question, the way you want to feel through this sequence:
- Remember when you have felt the way you want to feel at the event, a specific time in the past. Bring that event into your mind’s eye like a movie. Good.
- See yourself experiencing the specific occurrence from the past. Hear what positive self talk you had about feeling this way.
- Feel really, really feel that specific feeling.
- Now you have created the feeling you want in the present and can access it by just ASKing.
That was easy, wasn’t it?
